Antique Trunks....

If you're looking for a way to inject some personality and warmth into a room while adding function and increased storage, consider making room in your home for a beautiful old trunk.  Old trunks come in many different styles and sizes.  Their classic, understated good looks work beautifully with almost any decor.  I actually have three antique trunks in our clubroom.....two being used as end tables and one as our coffee table.

The antique pine chest is from the late 1800's.  It has a waxed pine finish with some distress marks which are consistent with age and adds character and authenticity.  It has dovetailed detailing and stands on a moulded plinth.  I purchased this trunk in 1987 from Lea Sutton Interiors in Tulsa.  The darker trunk that is being used as a coffee table has a flat metal top surface easily accomodating drinks or popcorn for late-night movie watching.  It  has a carved note inside that reads "made from grandma Leedy's organ...1940."    I found this at Zelda's Antique Warehouse which was located on 7th/Peoria....it is no longer at that location.

Antique oak trunk bound with metal on corners for added strength and iron carrying handles on each end....Also, used as an end table in the clubroom.  Purchased from the Paper Lamb which is no longer in Tulsa.

My favorite trunk is a smaller hand waxed pine with original iron and round moulded edges around the top.   It also is from the late 1800's.  It is used for storage along with PB baskets under our writing desk in the office/library.  It, too, was purchased from Lea Sutton Interiors.

Rich in history and unbelievably versatile....there's much to love about old trunks.
