...The Rock Café is a historic café/restaurant on Route 66 in Stroud, OK...
...named after the sandstone rock used in its construction...
...built during the Dust Bowl era of the Great Depression...
...The day we were there most of the clientele had accents, so they were probably from other countries traveling the Mother Road...
...friendly service, delicious sweet tea...
...we ordered the buffalo burger w/ fries and fried green tomatoes, which was just ok...

Midway Downs...
...I can't talk about Stroud, OK without thinking of Midway Downs....
...a place where I spent many Friday & Saturday nights growing up in my middle school and early high school years...
...I learned to drive a car on this track...my dad put me out there on the track and I would drive the circle...
...My dad and two of his buddies owned the track during this time...After my older brother earned his driver's license, we would drive over on Wednesday's after school and put the programs together. He was quite the typist...He typed and I ran the copier, folded and stapled...On race nights, I sold the programs at the gate...
...back in its' heyday, Midway Downs' bleachers held capacity crowds every week-end to watch quarter horses race, and the streets of Stroud were filled with race fans...
...We still have good friends from these days...the Max Thomas family who still live in Stroud...
...Such a small world...the jockey on the winner of this race is the uncle to Ali's superintendent...

After my dad sold Midway Downs, he built the Mid America Sale Barn in Bristow....During his tenure as owner, it was strictly for horse sales....After it was sold to the Johnston/Varner family, they turned it to cattle sales...I will never forget the phone number...it has stayed the same all these years...
